Web page loading speed is considered to be the most important expectation in the UX hierarchy, according to the Speed Matters report by Google. Discover the UX pyramid!
Web page loading speed: users’ number one requirement
The level of expectation of today’s internet users is striking. Since the mobile became the most frequently used device for connecting to the internet, users have been accessing content and services on the go. They expect an easy, fluid connection from their smartphone, wherever they are and at all times. Loading time is now users’ number one requirement:

In addition to the “simple expectation” of users, speed can have a huge impact on online sales. In fact, 53% of mobile visits to websites are abandoned if the pages take more than 3 seconds to load.
An increasingly heavy web and pages that are slow to load
The web is becoming heavier and heavier each year. If we analyse the state of the web, we can see that a median page on a mobile reaches approximately 1.5 Mo, most of which consists of JavaScript and images.
The increasing size of websites, combined with other factors such as network latency, the processor’s limitations, the reasons for page rendering blocks or superfluous third-party codes, all contribute to the complex problem of performance, particularly on mobiles.
A vital awareness
For some years now, e-commerce website managers are becoming increasingly attentive to the loading speed of their web pages. However, for lack of resources or expertise, the web performance optimization is often relegated to the background in practice.
All website contributors must be aware of the importance of loading times and plan a Performance Budget to sustainably maintain the effectiveness of their actions!
