🔎 GENERAL OBSERVATIONS

  • 25% of sites analyzed still have a poor CLS, a metric that significantly impacts user experience. A high CLS can lead to frustration, as page elements shift unexpectedly during loading.
  • 63% of sites don’t have a green INP, the metric that replaced FID as of 12 March 2024. INP measures the latency of all interactions throughout a webpage’s lifecycle. The highest value—or near-highest for pages with many interactions—is recorded as the INP of the page. A low INP indicates that the page is reliably responsive at all times.
  • Less than half of the top 50 sites have all three Core Web Vitals in the green, underscoring the challenge of maintaining optimal web performance consistently.

E-commerce : Webperf ranking of the top 30 most visited sites in the United Kingdom

Average of vital core web:

🏆 TOP 3 LEADERS

  1. Aldi made a leap to take the top spot, climbing 19 places! This achievement was driven by an impressive improvement in its CLS, which went from red (0.37) to green (0.05). With LCP and INP already in the green, Aldi now leads the rankings.
  2. Temu dropped to 2nd place but remains a strong contender with consistently excellent metrics.
  3. John Lewis fell to 3rd position, maintaining stable metrics but losing its higher rank due to fierce competition.

Core Web Vitals Overview – Media (June 2025)

  • ❌ Only 33% of media sites analyzed achieved all three Core Web Vitals in the green, showing that even in mature sectors, continuous optimization is essential to meet the demands of today’s users.
  • ⏱ 83% of media sites have a green LCP, meaning key content is generally rendered quickly.
  • 🧭 The real challenge remains Interaction to Next Paint (INP), where only 40% of media sites are in the green. This means that while pages load quickly and remain visually stable, user interactions like clicks and taps are often delayed — a critical issue for high-engagement platforms.
  • 🔒 90% have a stable layout with a green CLS, a strong point for the category.

Travel : Webperf ranking of the top 20 most visited sites in the United Kingdom

  • 🥈Transport For London (0) remains in second place, leading in interactivity with a best-in-class INP of 121 ms.
  • 🥉Pitchup (0) secures third, though with a slightly higher INP of 211 ms.

🌟 NOTABLE IMPROVEMENTS

  • Parkdean Resorts (+4) cut LCP by 471 ms, making key content visible faster.
  • Po Cruises (+3) showed solid work across the board: –196 ms on LCP, –24 ms on INP, and –0.09 on CLS, reducing layout shifts.
  • National Rail (+3) also improved on all fronts: –196 ms on LCP, –15 ms INP, and –0.06 CLS.
  • The Trainline (+4) managed to lift all metrics, including a –114 ms LCP drop, –34 ms on INP, and –0.19 CLS, moving from red to orange — a meaningful improvement in page stability.

📉 CHALLENGES IN THE RANKINGS

However, several well-known names saw regressions, particularly on LCP, which affects how quickly users can see important information:

  • Rome 2 Rio (–2) saw a significant +261 ms increase in LCP.
  • Airbnb (–2) recorded minor slowdowns in both LCP and INP.
  • Jet2 (–2) added +142 ms to LCP.

🧪 Core Web Vitals Overview – Travel (June 2025)

  • ❌ Only 7% of travel sites pass all three Core Web Vitals thresholds — the lowest of any category.
  • ⏱ 44% have a green LCP, meaning ey content still takes too long to load — a major blocker for users comparing destinations or searching for the best deal.
  • 🧭 Just 18.5% meet Google’s INP threshold — interactivity is the biggest pain point. That means most users experience delays when interacting — whether selecting dates, opening dropdowns, or submitting booking forms. These lags can seriously hurt both user satisfaction and conversion rates.
  • 🔒 37% have a green CLS, leaving room to improve page stability during loading

July 2025 ranking

As summer drives mobile traffic up, speed is more critical than ever.

🔹 Top 50: Wikipedia, Indeed, and Gov.uk lead with fast, stable sites.
🔹 E-commerce: IKEA holds #1, but interactivity (INP) remains a major weakness (only 19% pass).
🔹 Media: The Guardian, BBC, and Sky Sports stay strong — but CLS scores drop slightly.
🔹 Travel: Still struggling — only 11% of sites pass all Core Web Vitals.

📊 Key metric to watch? INP — too many sites remain slow to respond.

👉 Explore the full rankings and insights below.

Top 50 : Webperf ranking of the top 50 most visited websites in the United Kingdom

🏆 TOP 3 LEADERS

  2. Indeed (2) continues to impress, clocking 108 ms INP and maintaining high loading and stability scores.
  3. Gov.uk (3) with the lowest LCP in the top 10.

🌟 NOTABLE IMPROVEMENTS

Several websites climbed the ranks this month — some thanks to measurable performance improvements:

  • BT (+6 → #25): Strong gains across the board: –183 ms LCP, –13 ms INP, and –0.05 CLS. A more stable and responsive site overall.

  • Zoopla (+5 → #15): Improvements across all metrics, including –26 ms INP, make browsing listings smoother.

  2. Aldi (2) remains a close second with solid scores, despite a higher LCP than IKEA.

  3. John Lewis (3) also delivers consistent performance, especially on stability (CLS: 0).

🌟 NOTABLE IMPROVEMENTS

Only one brand made a real leap this month, but it’s worth highlighting:

  • PrettyLittleThing (+3 → #12) made strong gains across all metrics:

    • LCP improved by –164 ms,

    • INP dropped by –62 ms,

    • CLS improved to stay in the green (–0.03).

This is a great example of well-rounded optimization that directly improves the mobile experience.

📉 CHALLENGES IN THE RANKINGS

Some brands saw slight regressions that could impact the user journey:

  • H&M (–4 → #18) had a more noticeable slip:

    • LCP increased by +85 ms,

    • CLS degraded by +0.05, pushing it into the orange zone, which could result in layout shifts during product browsing.

🏆 TOP 3 LEADERS

  1. 🥇 The Guardian remains #1 with a solid INP of 117 ms and a well-balanced performance across all Core Web Vitals.

  2. 🥈 BBC stays second with 146 ms INP and a CLS of 0, proving both responsive and visually stable.

  3. 🥉 Sky Sports keeps its place in third, though its LCP of 1836 ms is slightly above others, INP performance is strong at 135 ms.

These top players demonstrate consistency and commitment to experience — offering seamless news access when it matters most.

📉 CHALLENGES IN THE RANKINGS

Some high-profile regressions stood out — particularly where loading time and responsiveness deteriorated:

  • The Telegraph (–7 → #11) had the sharpest drop, with a +550 ms spike in LCP and +31 ms INP, likely hurting page accessibility.

  • Financial Times (–4 → #16) saw great improvements on LCP and INP (–137 ms) but suffered from a CLS increase of +0.07, pushing it into the orange. It’s a reminder that gains in speed can be negated by visual instability.

  • Daily Star (–3 → #26) declined across all three metrics: +363 ms on LCP, +51 ms on INP and +0.03 on CLS — suggesting a deteriorating experience for readers.

  • Gov.uk holds strong at #2, with an INP of 105ms.

  • Indeed remains steady at #3, balancing a solid INP of 137ms and consistent overall performance.

THE ACTORS WITH THE BEST PERFORMANCES

Several websites have shown significant improvements, climbing the ranks with enhanced web performance metrics :

  • Paypal made the largest jump, climbing 10 positions to reach 26th. Despite significant improvements in LCP and CLS, its INP deteriorated, highlighting the challenge of stabilizing web performance across all metrics and maintaining them over time.

  • Mumsnet made an impressive leap of 7 places to rank 10th, with a 24-point improvement in INP, moving it from orange to green in just one month.

  • Zoopla gained 5 positions, improving its INP by 139 points. This is a strong rebound after a drop last month.

  • Tesco climbed 4 places to 36th, showing steady recovery from last month with slight improvements across all metrics.

These sites reflect ongoing efforts to improve web performance, which will likely continue to positively impact user experience and engagement.

TOP 50 : CHALLENGES IN THE RANKINGS

Not every site could maintain or improve its standing. Here are the sites that struggled this month:

  • Pinterest fell 11 places to 45th, with significant degradations: +1990ms on LCP, +51ms on INP, and a decline in CLS as well.

  • Netflix dropped 5 positions to 28th. While its metrics showed only very slight declines, the improvement of competitors pushed it down the ranking.

  • Express and Argos both dropped 3 positions, landing at 30th and 32nd, respectively.

These declines highlight the ongoing challenge of maintaining web performance amidst evolving user expectations and technical demands.

General observations

  • 27% of the sites analyzed do not have a green Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), a metric that significantly impacts user experience. A high CLS can lead to a frustrating user experience, with page elements shifting unexpectedly during loading.

  • Less than half of the sites have all three Core Web Vitals in the green, underscoring the difficulty of achieving and maintaining optimal web performance.

  • 65% of the sites do not have a green INP, the metric that replaced FID as of 12 March 2024. INP measures the latency of all interactions throughout a webpage’s lifecycle. The highest value of these interactions – or close to the highest for pages with many interactions – is recorded as the INP of the page. A low INP indicates that the page is reliably responsive at all times.

E-commerce : Webperf ranking of the top 30 most visited sites in the United Kingdom

NOTABLE IMPROVEMENTS :

This month, the e-commerce ranking did not see any major changes, but there are a few notable movements to highlight:

  • Temu claimed the #1 spot, climbing 1 position to lead the ranking. With a strong INP of 164ms and a perfect CLS, its steady performance has pushed it ahead of its competitors.

  • Screwfix gained 2 places to rank 10th, continuing its consistent upward trend.

  • Boohoo moved up 2 spots to 12th, showing balanced improvements across key metrics.

  • Nike climbed 2 positions to 20th, maintaining steady progress in web performance.

This month, we also welcomed two new entries to the ranking: DIY and Vinted.. Their inclusion has caused some shifts in positions for other sites.

CHALLENGES FACED :

Some e-commerce sites faced difficulties this month, losing ground in the rankings:

  • Apple fell 4 positions to 17th, with notable deteriorations in its LCP and INP, which now stand at 3253ms and 190ms, respectively.

  • Asos lost 4 places to rank 23rd, with slight declines in all metrics, particularly CLS, which remains high at 0.36.

Uber Eats, EE, and Boots also dropped in the rankings, primarily due to high LCP and INP values, which highlight the need for further optimization efforts.

Top 50 : Webperf ranking of the top 50 most visited websites in the United Kingdom

Top 50 : Average of vital core web

This month, the Top 3 positions have seen a slight shift:

  1. Wikipedia remains unchallenged at the top with an INP of 95ms and perfect metrics.
  2. Gov.uk maintains its strong performance with an INP of 101ms and continues to lead with excellent CLS and LCP.
  3. Indeed has climbed 1 position to take 3rd place, thanks to significant improvements in its LCP (-80ms).

🌟 NOTABLE PROGRESSIONS

Several players demonstrated impressive optimization efforts this month:

  • DIY made the biggest leap of the month, gaining 8 places to rank 20th. This was driven by a 57ms reduction in INP and a 146ms reduction in LCP.
  • Telegraph climbed 6 spots to 6th position, with improvements across all metrics, including a 23ms reduction in INP.
  • Sky improved its position by 2 places, reaching 45th, with notable improvements of 60ms on INP and 151ms on LCP.
  • Daily Mail gained 2 spots to rank 22nd with consistent improvements across all metrics.
  • Marks and Spencer climbed 2 places to 17th, showing progress in both INP and LCP.

These sites reflect ongoing efforts to improve web performance, which will likely continue to positively impact user experience and engagement. These improvements are the result of consistent efforts to optimize their systems, with particular attention paid to INP. It’s worth noting that having a good FID does not necessarily mean having a good INP! FID only measures the first interaction, whereas INP assesses interactivity throughout the entire browsing session. The efforts made by these players to improve their web performance metrics are not only beneficial for their rankings but are also crucial for providing a quality user experience, reducing bounce rates, and increasing engagement on their platforms.

📉 CHALLENGES IN THE RANKINGS

Not every site fared well this month, with some experiencing challenges:

  • Temu dropped 3 spots to 9th due to a slight degradation in LCP.
  • Spotify fell 4 places to 24th, affected by a 34ms increase in INP.
  • BT dropped 4 positions to 26th due to degradations in both LCP and INP.
  • Screwfix lost 3 spots, ranking 30th, with minor degradations across all metrics.
  • Snapchat fell 2 positions to 40th, with increases in both LCP and INP.
  • Pinterest continues to struggle, dropping 2 spots to 47th due to deterioration in all metrics.

These declines highlight the ongoing challenge of maintaining web performance amidst evolving user expectations and technical demands.

Here are the e-commerce rankings, for which web performance is a business and SEO issue.

🌟 NOTABLE PROGRESSIONS

Several e-commerce sites stood out with strong optimizations this month:

  • DIY climbed 3 spots to rank 11th, showing significant improvements with 57ms less on INP and 146ms less on LCP.
  • Tesco gained 2 positions, moving to 19th, with its LCP turning green and a solid improvement in INP.
  • Nike also climbed 2 places to 20th, reflecting steady progress in web performance metrics.

📉 CHALLENGES OBSERVED

Not all sites performed well this month:

  • Halfords dropped 7 spots to rank 24th, primarily due to a CLS degradation (from 0.13 to 0.24) and an increase in INP.
  • Very fell 3 places to 7th, affected by a significant degradation in INP.
