The news has not gone unnoticed in recent weeks. Google is reportedly testing a red label to identify unusually slow mobile sites. A label that could have a major impact on click-through rates!
What is the “Red Slow Label”?
The screenshot was taken by K Neeraj Kayastha on February 25.
This bright red “slow” label would be visible during Google searches carried out from a cell phone, to warn mobile users that the site they’re about to click on is abnormally slow. This label could therefore have a particularly harmful impact on click-through rates (according to a study published by BrightEdge , SEO accounts for 51% of website traffic).
Half of all mobile users will abandon a site if it takes more than 3 seconds to load, and 74% will not wait more than 5 seconds.
This red label could therefore be part of Google’s “Mobile-Friendly” label, which aims to facilitate mobile browsing for users.
A few precautions, however!
Even though we know how important the speed of a website is to Google, the information on the “Red Slow Label” for mobiles has not been validated by the American giant.
It is therefore advisable to take this information with caution.
The “plus” of a fast site
Beyond this questioning of Google’s Red Slow Label, it’s worth remembering that a fast site has only advantages, for example:
- You improve your SEO
- Improved user experience
- Higher conversion rates on desktop and mobile devices
- You reduce your bounce rate
- You increase your page views per visit
- You reduce cart abandonment rates
- Contribute to customer loyalty
- Better manage traffic peaks
