Fasterize never stops working on a stable, high-performance platform that lets you analyze and improve the speed of your website! One of our current projects for 2019 is the migration of our platform. Here’s what’s going to change – for the better, of course – for you and for us.
Platform-wide OS upgrade
This OS evolution will enable us to update our development libraries and integrate the latest security patches. As a direct consequence, we’ll be able to accelerate future developments and take advantage of the latest Linux kernel features.
Securing releases
With a view to regular updates, securing releases is essential to reduce the risk of bugs and other unpleasant surprises. From a methodological point of view, this translates into Canary Releases and/or Blue-Green deployments, as well as Feature flags to guarantee optimal platform stability for all our users. In short, we test on small samples in beta mode before any deployment.
Isolating workers to ensure service continuity
As our infrastructure is shared by all our customers, we are working on improving the isolation of our workers to ensure optimum continuity of service. In this way, if workers are affected by a bug caused by one of our customers’ sites, the disruption will have no impact on other sites, as there will always be workers in working order to take over.
Auto-scaling, or platform elasticity
We’re migrating to Amazon Web Services (AWS)! Once this operation has been completed, it’s time for elasticity. In concrete terms, what happens? By using virtual machines rather than physical servers, we have the ability to instantiate and remove machines on demand and automatically.
In this way, the platform constantly adapts to the load, rather than being constantly on standby for traffic peaks. In this way, peaks are absorbed and the size of the infrastructure adapts during off-peak periods.
