Success Story: SantéVet boosts web performance and user experience

Since the early 2000s, SantéVet has been dedicated to pet health insurance. The website, which generates most of its traffic through SEO, had already been focusing on web performance. The teams decided to automate front-end optimization to save time and sustainably improve loading speed and interactivity.

  • CONTEXT

  • Context

Operating in France, Spain, Germany, and Belgium, SantéVet reimburses veterinary expenses for dogs and cats.

The site averages 300,000 to 400,000 page views per month, with peaks up to 2x higher during TV campaigns. Mobile devices account for 80% of the traffic.

SEO is critical for the site, with 80% of its traffic driven by organic search.

The technical teams had worked for nearly a year on improving the platform’s loading speed, but ongoing maintenance was required to achieve satisfactory results. Due to time constraints and sometimes limited expertise in highly technical areas, the teams couldn’t sustain this effort.

The Acquisition and SEO teams decided to rely on Fasterize’s SaaS solution to automate optimizations, save time, enhance efficiency, and benefit from the support of web performance experts.

  • GOALS

  • Goals

Aiming to provide an optimal user experience (UX) across all devices, even during traffic peaks, SantéVet identified issues related to heavy images and CSS on their pages.

Despite various investigations, the tested solutions did not yield satisfactory results.

Additionally, the introduction of Core Web Vitals into Google’s algorithm prompted the SEO team to prioritize page speed, targeting a PageSpeed Insights score of 80.

  • Deployment

  • Deployment

One of the key objectives was to minimize the workload for the technical team, starting from the implementation of Fasterize.

Over the 10-day period required for testing and deployment, the IT department was involved for just one hour.

    The deployment process included:

    1. Rolling out the solution to 25% of the traffic.

    2. Expanding to 50% two days later.

    3. Full deployment to 100% after fine-tuning the SmartCache feature, which excludes dynamic page areas from Fasterize’s cache.

  • SUPPORT

  • Support

Since integrating Fasterize, SantéVet has occasionally consulted its dedicated Customer Success Engineer for technical questions.

A website redesign is planned, after which the optimization engine will be reconfigured to meet the new platform’s requirements.

Following the activation of web performance optimizations, the number of pages considered fast by Google in Search Console has quadrupled, and this continues to grow.

Since content strategy is a major part of acquisition efforts, compressing all images into next-gen formats (WebP and AVIF) has enabled SantéVet to optimize its interface design. Lighter pages allow for more high-quality visuals without compromising loading speed.

Moreover, in pursuit of both UX and SEO optimization, key metrics have significantly improved. According to Google PageSpeed Insights “Field Data” (collected from real users):

  • First Contentful Paint (FCP) improved from 3500 ms to 2000 ms (-43%).

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) improved from 4000 ms to 2800 ms (-30%).

  • First Input Delay (FID) decreased from 25 ms to 20 ms (-20%).

Naturally, these improvements have positively impacted the PageSpeed Insights score.
